About This Book
Following the events of Niha's Curse, Set and Niha continue searching for a way to understand and sever the incomplete magical bond connecting their lives.
Niha's curse continues to consume her magic, while the knowledge required to treat it remains scattered among restricted texts, abandoned temples, and powerful institutions with their own political interests.
Their search brings them into the capital of the Iadaimon Kingdom — a heavily militarised city where Niha is already regarded as a fugitive and Set's presence carries political consequences of its own. A restricted text held within the kingdom's National Library may contain the information they need. Reaching it requires them to navigate a society where wizards are treated as strategic assets, political legitimacy depends upon magical power, and dragons are regarded with suspicion.
Their journey later extends beyond Iadaimon into the Elethos Empire, the Nubles Forest, and the unstable domain of the Temple of Chaos.
The World Expands
Drift takes Set and Niha beyond the isolation of the Whispering Peaks and into the political and geographical complexity of the wider world. Each location they enter operates by different laws, different beliefs, and a different understanding of power.
A heavily militarised city characterised by concrete architecture, strict surveillance, and a culture that values utility and strength. Every passerby moved like a slave to their monotonous steps, urged forward by the city's dull concrete façades.
A vast magical institution containing historical records, spellbooks, and restricted knowledge. Its interior does not obey ordinary physical dimensions — towering shelves of ancient tomes stretch impossibly high, disappearing into a vaulted ceiling that seems to defy logic.
The largest city in the Elethos Empire — a busy commercial centre shaped by trade, travel, and cultural exchange. Unlike the militarised capital of Iadaimon, Alkaliz operates by different rules entirely.
The Temple of Chaos exists outside conventional space and time. Time does not pass there at the same rate as in the physical world. It is associated with Zok, the God of Chaos, and contains knowledge unavailable through mortal academies or dragon institutions.

Ice Dragon Apprentice · Principal Narrator
Continuing as the primary narrator through his journals, Set encounters a mortal world that continues to challenge the laws, assumptions, and habits of his isolated upbringing. The Dragon Code offers less guidance than it once did.
Light Wizard · Cursed
Suffering from a curse that consumes her magical essence, Niha remains focused on survival and on finding information capable of breaking the bond connecting her to Set. Her distrust of institutions complicates every attempt to find help.
Crown Prince of Iadaimon
A former classmate of Niha's at Garthas Magic Academy. As heir to the kingdom, he faces pressure from nobles who question his authority and magical patronage. His history with Niha places their personal relationship in conflict with the interests of the state.
God of Chaos
Residing at the Temple of Chaos, Zok possesses extensive knowledge of time, space, and divine magic. His calculations and interventions are shaped by events extending far beyond the immediate journey of the protagonists.
Lightning Dragon Apprentice
Introduced in Niha's Curse, Lanz's status within dragon society remains uncertain. His presence in Drift carries consequences for both the Dragon Code and for Set's understanding of what loyalty requires.
Night Wizard
A relative of Prince Elliott, openly suspicious of Niha and Set. He represents the more hostile political and magical forces operating within Iadaimon — the ones that do not require a reason to regard a dragon as a threat.
The Central Conflict

Drift places the magical bond between Set and Niha under direct examination. The curse that connects them was never completed correctly — and the longer it persists, the more dangerous it becomes for both of them. If Set allows the bond to deepen, he will inherit her curse. If they sever it, Niha loses the one anchoring force slowing the curse's progression.
But the more pressing question is whether Set's attachment to Niha is genuine at all — or whether it is an artefact of the magic. Whether loyalty built inside an enforced connection can still be called loyalty. Whether a choice made under those conditions can still be called a choice.
Set's answer to that question is the heart of the book.
